Nick from Rose House

Nick the Nature and Music Lover

Rose House currently has six forever homes in Morris County, NJ including five group homes and an independent living apartment complex. We have the capacity to house a total of 32 adults with special needs. Here’s a look at one of our clients. These profiles will rotate every few months, so please return soon.

Nick appreciates everything the great outdoors offers, from the mountains to the beaches. He also enjoys parties and loves to dance.

Being a man of few words doesn’t keep Nick from being social with housemates through games, crafts, and birthday celebrations. Although he is the youngest of 12 residents at his forever home, Nick fits in perfectly and has made great friendships.

Nick’s parents chose to move him to Rose House’s Hanover Community Residence in his 20s. They aimed to avoid an abrupt disruption and make the transition as smooth as possible for both Nick and his family. This decision benefited him in ways that they had not anticipated.

Moving Nick to Rose House was smooth because he worked at Employment Horizons with five of his future housemates. His new home would be just a mile from where he worked. With a passion for music and dancing, Nick looks forward to special events at his workplace and home. His housemate Billy often DJs in the apartment complex’s rec room.

“He always enjoyed listening to the classic rock groups that his father and I liked,” Nick’s mother Doris explained. “Now that he’s been to many dance parties, we are amazed at how much Nick knows about today’s pop artists and their songs. Socializing has greatly expanded his musical tastes, and we’re happy he’s discovering new things because of it.”

Nick’s family often travels to their house in upstate New York, where he loves to kayak and paddleboard on the lake while watching the wildlife. He also looks forward to his family’s annual vacation in Wildwood, NJ. Nick enjoys the amusement park rides and walking along the boardwalk. As a reptile aficionado, he especially appreciates Cape May Zoo.

“Rose House has given Nick a sense of independence and routine very quickly,” said his mother, Doris. “We’ll ask him if he wants to go on vacation with us. If he decides to stay home with friends, it’s OK because we feel comfortable knowing he’s in a safe place with caring staff.”

In addition to loving nature and music, Nick is an avid bowler. He looks forward to McArp’s (Morris County Adaptive Recreation Program) bowling events. He also participates annually in the Special Olympics of New Jersey bowling tournaments.
